He initially became involved in the field of aerospace engineering when, as a college student, he wanted to join the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. Subsequently, Mr. Paulson graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Upon graduation, Mr. Paulson became a commissioned second lieutenant in the United States Air Force, advancing through grades to the rank of colonel before his retirement in 1989. During his time with the United States Air Force, he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, completing his Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1964. Notably, Mr. Paulson received a note from former United States President George H.W. Bush upon his military retirement, which he recalls as a career highlight.
Upon his return to the private sector, Mr. Paulson excelled as the president and the chief executive officer of Geodynamics Corporation in Torrance, California from 1989 to 1995. From 1995 to 2001, he served as mission 2 coordinator for TRW of Redondo Beach, California. Throughout his career, he contributed to a satellite system that launched in 1982 and continued to be a significant addition to the United States space program for many years, a contribution of which he is quite proud. Likewise, Mr. Paulson is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
