Mr. Huff is a retired computer science educator, an international lecturer, and an engineer who worked throughout the U.S. for many years. Originally a shrimp boat fisherman in Mississippi and a deep-sea offshore drilling crew member in Venice, Louisiana during the late 1940s and early 1950s, he subsequently spent time in the military where he gained tremendous experience in mechanics, radar, and other areas. Mr. Huff next worked as a research chemist and a quality control inspector with Consolidated/Vultee Aircraft Company, and as a chemical engineer and a quality control supervisor with U.S. Gypsum Company. Between 1967 and 1988, he taught and chaired the computer science department at Victor Valley Community College (VVCC) in Victorville, California. Among other roles, Mr. Huff also owned his own business, High Desert Data Systems.
In addition to his tenure at Victor Valley Community College, Mr. Huff's journey in academia included teaching appointments at Chapman College in Orange, California, and World University in Benson, Arizona. He also taught computer science and quantitative analysis courses for a brief time at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. A former trustee for World University Roundtable and former management information system consultant for Mojave Water Agency in California, Mr. Huff continues served as a computer center consultant for the city of Emugu in Nigeria from 1990 to 1994.
Throughout his career, Mr. Huff has lectured on various topics overseas in Belgium, England and France, including cybernetics, artificial intelligence and integrative biochemistry and has authored five computer science textbooks. He is a member and past president of the Student Institute of Aeronautical Science (1953-1957) and member and past treasurer of the California Business Education Association. He is also affiliated with the American Management Association, the California Educational Computing Consortium and the UN Association of the U.S.A. and is a life member of the Soaring Society of America and the Disabled American Veterans. Further, Mr. Huff has remained a founding member of the American Air Museum in Britain since 1991.
An alumnus of San Diego State University, Mr. Huff received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in chemical air science in 1957. He later attended Golden Gate University, from which he acquired a Master of Business Administration in 1972. He holds several certifications, including a life, trade, and industry certificate for data process and computer science from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1971. Mr. Huff notably received an Honorary Cultural Doctorate from World University in 1987 for his achievements.
Joining the U.S. Air Force in 1954, Mr. Huff advanced to the rank of a captain, during which he stood alert for the Berlin and Cuban Crisis and later was deployed to Vietnam in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was previously a U.S. Naval Reservist between 1950 and 1954 and served with the U.S. Army 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions in 1964. Mr. Huff completed numerous training regimens during this time, including advanced jets, escape and evasion, deep-sea survival and U.S. Army parachute training.
Honored with a Teacher of the Year Award by VVCC for the 1967-1968 academic school year, Mr. Huff also received multiple recognitions for his service. Among them was a Life Saving Award by the Military Forces of Spain, Presidential Medal of Merit, Presidential Achievement Award, Vietnamese Service Medal, and National Defense Medal. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in over a dozen editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World.
