With over five decades of professional experience to his credit, Mr. Ford has flourished as a communications executive for his entire career. He began as a television production assistant with the United States Information Agency in Washington, D.C. in 1963, a capacity he maintained for two years while pursuing his undergraduate degree. After briefly teaching at the University of Maryland while finishing his graduate degree, he continued as an account executive for Ruder & Finn, Inc in New York City from 1965 to 1966. Soon thereafter, Mr. Ford served as an assistant to the executive vice president and then as manager of educational services for the American Stock Exchange in New York City between 1966 and 1970, later accepting the position of manager of communications and audio visual training for Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith, Inc. from 1970 to 1974.
As he progressed through his career, Mr. Ford directed the education and training department for CBS Incorporated for three years, then advancing to the role of director or employee development and education from 1977 until 1979. Further, he served as a vice president of the Travel Network, a subsidiary of ABC, and as president of its Travel University subsidiary in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Back in New York, Mr. Ford became director of human resources for Home Box Office, a division of Time, Inc., from 1981 to 1984, at which point he became president of his own communications consulting firm, John C. Ford Associates, a position he maintains into the present. Outside of his primary endeavors, he also served on the faculties of the Katharine Gibbs School and the New York Institute of Finance from 1971 until 1974.
As an active member of his community, Mr. Ford has served on the boards of the Archeus Foundation, the West 70th Street Block Association, the Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts; as a director and trustee of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; and as a director and president of the 15 West 81st Tenants Corporation. He maintains professional ties with a number of organizations in his field including the National Communications Association, American Society for Training and Development, The Organizational Development Network and related affiliations in the adult learning community. Mr. Ford currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Neumann University in Aston, PA, which he chaired for two terms; the Board of Advisors for Emerson College in Boston; and chairs the Board of Visitors for the Theater, Dance and Performance Studies program at the University of Maryland. Mr. Ford and his wife have established scholarships and learning facilities at all three institutions. He is a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the Omicron Delta Kappa Society.
In light of his of his exceptional undertakings, he has been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in Media and Communication, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Emerging Leaders in America.
A graduate of the University of Maryland, Mr. Ford earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964. Subsequently he completed postgraduate work at various institutions between 1965 and 1982 including New York University, the Colgate Darden School at the University of Virginia, the University of Wisconsin, The New School University in New York and the Harvard Graduate School of Business where more recently he was selected as a facilitator for its online Leadership Direct program, Mr. Ford has also earned teaching certificates from the Sterling Institute, The Forum Corporation (now Achieve/Forum), Wilson Learning Corporation and the Crowell-Collier Institute.
Mr. Ford is married to Dr. Sandra Sollod Poster, who is a (retired) full professor of communications at City University of New York. They have one son and two grandchildren and live in New York City and Great Barrington, MA.
