During this time, she has acted as a consultant, an artistic adviser and a coach to dancers and dance companies. Prior to this work, she was the artistic director and choreographer for the Joan Wolf Ballet Company in Hillsdale and River Edge, New Jersey, between 1972 and 1988. She was also the owner and director of the Joan Wolf Ballet Ensemble from 1964 to 1972 and the owner of the Joan Wolf School of Ballet in Hillsdale and River Edge between 1957 and 1988. Beginning her career as a soloist with the Richmond Ballet Company in Virginia from 1949 to 1957, Ms. Wolf briefly spent time as a commercial artist with the Cargill & Wilson Advertising Agency in Richmond from 1954 to 1956.
Alongside her primary responsibilities, Ms. Wolf has served as an ambassador from the World of Classical Ballet, teaching classes in Russia, France, China and Israel. Furthermore, she has been active as a consultant and audience developer with the Florida Symphonic Pops Orchestra, a member of the board of directors of the Dance Library of Israel and a member of the Bergen County Cultural Arts Commission. Incredibly active in her community, Ms. Wolf was involved with the Greater Pascack Valley Chamber of Commerce, where she spent time as a trustee and the chair of the Bikeway Commission.
Featured in the book "There's Always a Right Job for Every Woman" by Roberta Roesch, Ms. Wolf has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades over the years. First recognized with a Professional Teacher Award from the National Academy of Ballet in 1960, she later received a Citation Award from the State of New Jersey and a Commendation Award from the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1981. In light of all her accomplishments, Ms. Wolf has previously been featured in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Entertainment and Who's Who of American Women.
