Lyman, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lyman celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Prior to that appointment, he held the roles of professor and associate professor with the aforementioned university between 1984 and 2017. His areas of focus encompass electron beam microanalysis, materials science, and scientific editing. Earlier in his career, he worked as a staff scientist for DuPont, as well as an assistant professor at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Dr. Lyman was a post-doctoral researcher with the department of metallurgy at the University of Oxford from 1974 to 1975.

Lyman's major research centered on structure-property relationships in bimetallic catalysts used to speed chemical reactions. Using scanning transmission electron microscopes incorporating special analytical facilities, he and his students developed the composition-size diagram, which allowed researchers to track catalyst synthesis, processing, and use.
Dr. Lyman served as president of the Microscopy Society of America (1991), president of the Microanalysis Society (2000), editor-in-chief of the journal Microscopy and Microanalysis (2000-2008), and editor-in-chief of Microscopy Today (2009-2019).
