Licensed to practice by the Supreme Court of the United States, the Tenth Circuit of the Court of Appeals, and the state and federal courts of Kansas, Arizona, and Missouri, Helbert & Allemang are sought-after for their expertise and professionalism. Prior to establishing his firm in 1998, Mr. Helbert was an associate at Atherton, Hurt & Sanderson in Emporia, a partner at Helbert & Bell, and was in private practice as the principal of his own firm in Emporia before establishing Helbert & Allemang.
During 1998 and 1999, Mr. Helbert served on the Kansas Civil Justice Initiative. In more recent years, he has contributed numerous articles in his area of expertise in the Journal of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association between 2005 and 2016. One of the proudest achievements in Mr. Helbert's legal career was a whistle blower case, Wells vs. Kansas Gas and Electric, which he personally handled. Representing a young man who was discharged for filing safety concerns with the nuclear regulator commission, they won the case. The client, who had been fired by his company, was rehired.
Mr. Helbert is now serving his fifth term as the chairman of the Emporia Recreation Commission since 2014. He has formerly been active on the United School District #253 school board, as a past director and the vice-chairman of the Emporia Chamber of Commerce. Moreover, Mr. Helbert found success as a Kansas University Endowment Association advisory board member, the chairman of the United Way of Emporia professional division, and the treasurer of the Lyon County Representative Central Committee.
An alumnus of the University of Kansas, Mr. Helbert received both a Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1975. He was President of the Junior Class at the University of Kansas in 1970-1971 and President of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma, 1971-1972. While pursuing his law degree, he worked as an intern for the Douglas County Legal Aid in Lawrence, Kansas, between 1974 and 1975. He has been admitted to the Kansas Bar Association, the U.S. District Court of Kansas, the Supreme Court of the United States, and the 10th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals. Among other industry related organizations, Mr. Helbert is a member and a past president of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association and the Lyon-Chase County Bar Association. He has also served on the board of governors of the Trial Lawyers Association since 1988 and as an Eagle since 2000.
