BALA CYNWYD, PA, September 12, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Murphy has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Murphy currently has a private law practice in Philadelphia, handling complex civil matters including libel and civil rights at trial and appellate levels. His career has uncommonly combined practical experience with academic legal pursuits.
A graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, Mr. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Scranton in 1973, summa cum laude. In 1976, he received his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he served on the Board of Editors of Penn's prestigious Law Review. After federal and state law clerkships with three noted jurists (Hon. Edward R. Becker, A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr., and Samuel J. Roberts), Murphy taught at St. John's University School of Law. He soon attained the title of Associate Professor, before turning to a full career in legal practice.
Murphy was an attorney for the law firm of James E. Beasley, Sr., which was named Beasley, Casey, Colleran, Erbstein, Thistle, Kline & Murphy during the late 1980's. Thereafter, he pursued the practice of law primarily as an independent practitioner, while continuing to contribute to legal scholarship and education.
Between 1994 and 1996, Mr. Murphy served as the legal editor for Pennsylvania District & County Reports and the Pennsylvania Law Weekly, where he also became the editor-in-chief. In past years, he was also among the faculty on continuing legal education for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and served briefly as a Lecturer in Products Liability at Temple University Law School. He has published legal articles in several prominent law reviews, and has been cited as a reference in various Court opinions and articles nationally.
Due to his activities in law, Murphy was recognized as an AV Preeminent Lawyer of 35 Years by Martindale-Hubbell in 2015. He is a member of the American Bar Association, and in 2016 was made a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Recently, he has had the distinction as a private attorney to be engaged by the public Board of Revision of Taxes of' the City of Philadelphia in litigation brought by hundreds of commercial taxpayers challenging the state constitutionality of' a City property reassessment.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Murphy anticipates an increased focus on libel law, which impacts significantly on the first amendment, and increased activity in the District of Columbia Bar.
