Dr. Singh celebrates his more than 55 years of professional experience: hands-on mechanical design experience in industries in India, former USSR and USA from 1962 to 1985 and academic experience in mechanical design concentration in USA from 1985 to 2019. Dr. Singh has been a professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) since 2003, having been an associate professor since 1985. He served as Chair of Mechanical Engineering at UTSA from 1993 to 1996. He also served as an associated faculty of Biomedical Engineering, a joint program with the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) from 2003 to 2016. Earlier in his career, he was a senior engineer with Allis-Chalmers Corp. from 1977 to 1985, having been an engineer with the company since 1975, and a mechanical engineer with DES-ENG-CON Corporation from 1971 to 1972. In 1970 and from 1972 to 1973, he was a design engineer with Birdsboro Corp., and from 1964 to 1965 he was a design engineer with Youjuralmashzavod, USSR. Earlier in his career, he was a mechanical design engineer with Heavy Engineering Corp. Ltd. from 1962 to 1970.
Dr. Singh first pursued an education with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee where he obtained a Bachelor of mechanical engineering degree in 1962. He immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he received a Master of Science in mechanical engineering at Youngstown State University in 1974. He subsequently joined the State University of New York at Buffalo, completing postgraduate coursework from 1974 to 1975. Concluding his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering in 1984. He is certified as a professional engineer in the states of Wisconsin and Texas.
A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Dr. Singh has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. A Life Fellow (2008) and Fellow (1992) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he is a member of the Society of Mining Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Contract Bridge League. He has also been active with the American Society for Engineering Education and the Association for Iron and Steel Engineers.
Throughout his career, Dr. Singh has been recognized for his contributions. He received Mathematics Medal from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 1959, the Mechanical Design Award from Youzuralmashvod, and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1996. He was the recipient of the Charles E. Balleisen Award and the Clifford H. Schumacher Award from ASME Region X. In light of all his accomplishments, he has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
