FORT SAINT JOHN, BC, September 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bill Bouffioux has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With 30 years of professional experience to his credit, Mr. Bouffioux has excelled as the owner and the manager of XY Bison Ranch since 1989. The son of George Bouffioux, a homesteader based out of Peace River Country who established his cattle ranch in 1919, he worked diligently on the Harford Cattle Ranch from 1965 to 1989. Subsequently, he shifted his focus from raising cattle to ranching bison, as the latter livestock was less labor -intensive, more self-sufficient, and are less susceptible to diseases such as pink eye and foot rot. Upon founding the XY Bison Ranch with his wife, Fiat, Mr. Bouffioux discovered his workload dropping to a tenth of his previous farming responsibilities, which enabled him to direct his exemplary work ethic and instincts toward achieving more significant results.
Prior to embarking upon his professional path, Mr. Bouffioux graduated with honors from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, earning an associate's degree in agricultural mechanics in 1963. In addition to his primary responsibilities, he found success for more than seven years with the Canadian Bison Association, for which he previously held the posts of the president, the vice president, and the treasurer. The president of the Northern/Southern Bison Association, Mr. Bouffioux was formerly active as the president of the Saskatchewan Bison Association and the BC Bison Association.
With his bison photographed for the cover of the North American Livestock Journal, Mr. Bouffioux's work with XY Bison Ranch has been spotlighted by such media outlets as Grainews, The Western Producer, BC Business, the Montreal Gazette, and the Alaska Highway News. The proud father of two daughters, he has welcomed one grandson into his immediate family as well. Attributing his success to the support he has received from his family, Mr. Bouffioux was further motivated to seek a career in ranching upon attending a future farmers meeting in Vancouver while completing his high school education, which exposed him to registered cattle for the first time.
Beyond the many natural advantages that come with raising bison as opposed to cattle, Mr. Bouffioux discovered the show and sales side of bison ranching, at which he has cemented himself among the top ranchers in his field. Recognized as the Best in BC Bison Ranching by the BC Agricultural Council from 2002 to 2003, he was heralded as the winner of the International Bison Conference Poster Competition in 2000. Additionally honored as the Best in British Columbia at the Showcase Farm Competition, the XY Ranch has accrued Grand Championships from the 2014 Wildrose Bison Show and Sale, the 2015 Canadian Bison Association Show and Sale, the 2016 Wildrose Bison Show and Sale, and the 2017 Canadian National Bison Sale at the Canadian Western Agribition, among myriad other placements, prizes, and trophies.
Although he has experienced many highlights over the course of his storied career, Mr. Bouffioux is most proud of winning a carcass class, in which the yield and meat quality was graded, as well as raising a three-year-old bull to weigh 1800 pounds, which was 200 pounds heavier than any comparable bull at that age. Fondly recalling winning Grand Championships while raising cattle as well, he has traveled locally and internationally in the best interest of the XY Ranch, even selling to meat brokers from Switzerland, where bison is a unique delicacy. Recently enrolling in a test program for bulls across Canada, in which his family achieved outstanding results, Mr. Bouffioux hopes to remain involved in a more limited capacity with his family farm as his eldest daughter takes over the business in the years to come.
