CORNVILLE, AZ, September 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Marvin O. Bagby, LHD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Bagby celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Bagby retired in 1996 after close to 40 years in his field. Working with the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture in Peoria, Illinois from 1957 to 1996, he was Manager of the Northern Agricultural Energy Center (one of two Department Centers) from 1980 to 1985, and continuing with the ARS, served as Research Leader for Hydrocarbon Plants and Biomass Research unit between 1980 and 1982 at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research. He previously served as Research Leader of the Fibrous Products Research unit from 1974 to 1980. The Agricultural Research Service is notably the USDA's chief scientific in-house research agency whose job is to find solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table.
Early on in his career, Mr. Bagby was moved into a group that was characterizing and determining the structure of what wound up being a very large list of previously unknown fatty acids. In 1969, the laboratory chief transferred Mr. Bagby out of the fat and oil research that he was working on and into the Fibrous Product Research unit. In 1974, he was named leader of that group. Mr. Bagby completed his career as Research Leader of Oil Chemical Research from 1985 to 1996 where he made significant contributions to biodiesel research and is also renowned for his efforts in co-inventing a process for a 100 percent soybean oil based vehicle for news lithographic ink.
Mr. Bagby is a former panel manager for the USDA, notably with the Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service, the Fund for Rural America and the Value Added Producer Grants and Product Quality and New Uses. He is also a former consultant on numerous special assignments. Affiliated with several professional organizations, some of these include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, the American Chemical Society, the American Oil Chemists Society and the New York Academy of Science. He is notably an honorary Lifetime Member of the American Soybean Association. Locally, Mr. Bagby is the past president of his homeowners' association and served on the planning and zoning committee and the board of the Cornville Page Springs Community Association.
Honored with an Alumni Achievement Award from Western Illinois University in 1980, Mr. Bagby also received an ARS Technology Transfer Award in 1990 and a Distinguished Service Award from the United States Department Agriculture in 1992, among others. He has previously been cited in the first editions of Who's Who in America: Student Version and Who's Who in Science and Engineering as well as in several edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
Greatly inspired by his high school chemistry teacher, Mr. Bagby knew by the time that he was a college freshman that he wanted to pursue a career in the sciences. Going on to college, Mr. Bagby earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science at Western Illinois University in 1957 and later received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the university in 1992. Prior to earning his degrees, he served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Married to his wife, Mary Jean Jennings, since 1957, Mr. Bagby is the proud father of two sons and grandfather to three grandchildren.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Bagby has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
