Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Beginning piano lessons at the age of 4, Ms. Schubert was influenced by her parents, who were singers as well as pianists. Finding a natural affinity for the craft, she was encouraged by her parents to pursue the instrument professionally. Studying composition under Violet Archer and Charles Hoag as well, her primary professor at the University of Oklahoma was Lytle Powell, a student of Tobias Matthay, a famed British pedagogue. Ms. Schubert is further recognized as an alumnus of Southern Nazarene University.

Training more than 100 piano teachers and composers throughout her over 60-year long career, Ms. Schubert has taught composition since 1970. She also teaches piano, music theory, pedagogy and improvisation to students of all ages. A past instructor at Southern Nazarene University, she was also a private piano instructor in Bethany and both a composer and arranger with Lillenas Publishing Company in Kansas City, Missouri, and Alfred Publishing Company. A pianist and an organist at Bethany Nazarene Church since 1968, Ms. Schubert regularly presented her students at auditions for the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association (OMTA), receiving a plaque in 2005 to commemorate her 40th year anniversary with the OMTA and MTNA, receiving her 50 year pin with MTNA and OMTA in 2015, and becoming designated as the Distinguished Teacher of the Year in 2007.

Ms. Schubert has conducted world tours for the World Nazarene Church, and has presented sacred and classical piano concerts in 20 countries. Voted as an Outstanding Alumnus by Southern Nazarene University in 1978, she was notably one of three piano teachers in the United States to receive the National Artist Diploma from the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Published in over 30 piano, organ and choral books to date, Ms. Schubert is a noted member of the National Piano Guild Hall of Fame.

The past president of the Central Oklahoma Music Teachers Association from 1986 to 1988, Ms. Schubert is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Oklahoma City Pianists Club, where she was the president from 2000 to 2002, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers, where she is an adjudicator.
