Dr. David Elwood Lampe flourished as an educator for over four decades.

Now retired, Dr. Lampe flourished as an educator for over four decades. At the start of his career, he taught at Bemidji State College in Minnesota, Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, from 1964 to 1969. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of the State University College at Buffalo as an assistant professor in 1969. Furthermore, Dr. Lampe became an associate professor before retiring as a full professor in 2006.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Lampe also served as the founder and the director of the Western New York Medievalists in Buffalo between 1974 and 2004. Additionally, he was a member of the board of directors of the Faculty-Student Association and the White Pine Press in Fredonia, from 1984 to 2010. Dr. Lampe has been associated with the Poets and Writers Program for the State University College at Buffalo since 1978.
A successful writer and editor, publications Dr. Lampe has been involved with include "The Legend of Being Irish," "The 15th Century," "Five Irish Poets," 'Born in Brooklyn," "An Occasion of Sin," "Voice and Myths," "Celtic Connections," and "Mortals & Immortals" in the Birchfield-Kenney Art Center Poetry Series, 35th Anniversary Anthology. He has also contributed 25 articles to professional journals.
Civically, he dedicated his time as a member of the Parkside Community Association and the Delaware Park Steering Committee. For his career accomplishments, Dr. Lampe received a summer research grant from the State University of New York in 1970 and the National Endowment of the Humanities grant from Duke University.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Lampe graduated from Buena Vista College with a Bachelor of Arts and cum laude honors in 1962. Two years later, he secured a Master of Arts from the University of Nebraska in 1964. Furthermore, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the aforementioned institution in 1969.
The highlight of Mr. Lampe's career was enjoying the variety of teaching styles he was able to employ. He is proud to have adapted to the changes in students, disciplines, and curriculum over a 40-year period. He has written two books of poems and is currently working on a third. Looking forward into the future, Dr. Lampe hopes that his local legacy and support for the poetic community – recruiting poets, teaching, and encouraging creative writers – will live on.
