Mr. Ryan is a private practice real estate attorney in Montauk, New York, who celebrates more than 40 years in the field. Establishing his firm in 1980, he also handles various other legal matters, including criminal law and landlord and tenant cases. Mr. Ryan previously worked for two other firms as an associate attorney, the Office of L. Alan Birtwhistle in Bridgehampton, New York, and the Office of Thomas L. Hayes in Burlington, Vermont.
A former college instructor at Southampton College, which is now Stony Brook Southampton in New York, Mr. Ryan taught various real estate business law courses between 1980 and 1993. He has also lent his expertise by training police officers at the East Hampton Town Police Department in New York on various trial techniques and by participating in police department television forums on the topics of school violence and driving under the influence.
Mr. Ryan is an alumnus of American University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1971. He soon after attended Loyola University New Orleans (formerly known as Loyola of the South), where he attained a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1975. He has been admitted to the Vermont and New York Bar Associations.
A member of the Vermont Bar Association, Mr. Ryan was also affiliated with Ticor Title Guarantee in Riverhead, New York, as an advisory board member. Locally, he enjoys serving on the race committee for the Breakwater Yacht Club and as an organizer for the annual sailboat and speedboat races in Amagansett, New York. Mr. Ryan was named "Mr. Amagansett, 2015" and Montauk's 2019 St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Ryan is featured in the ninth edition of Who's Who in American Law.
