Having accrued over 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Turner was a private music teacher in Arlington from 1990 to 2015, and in Bellevue between 1981 and 1989. Previously, she worked as a teacher for Bellevue Public Schools in 1978, a district in which she served as a substitute teacher from 1974 until 1977. From 1971 to 1974, Ms. Turner contributed as a substitute teacher for Beckmantown Public School.
Ms. Turner began her career as a substitute teacher at Mills Junior High School between 1963 and 1968. Subsequently, she has excelled as a sky lark director at the Grand Forks Air Force Base from 1969 until 1971 and the Plattsburg Air Force Base from 1971 to 1974. An accomplished musician and educator, Ms. Turner has likewise found success as a substitute music teacher at Starmout School between 1990 and 1995 and as a music director and organist from the Saint John Lutheran Church from 1990 to 2014.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Turner pursued an education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Arts in music education in 1963. She progressed in her studies to receive certifications from Sacramento State University and the University of Nebraska in 1963, 1976, and 1983, subsequently. Ms. Turner's lessons in piano began when she was in grade school and, fortified by the goal of becoming a music teacher, she never lapsed in her practice. She gave piano lessons in Omaha, NE, from 1983-1990 and in Arlington, IA, from 1990-2014.
Outside of her immediate professional responsibilities, Ms. Turner was an active member of the Upper Iowa Music Teachers Association. She served as the vice president of the aforementioned organization from 1996 to 1997, and as the secretary from 1995 to 1996. Having spent her entire career teaching music, Ms. Turner is most proud of her students during recitals because they always came through in their performances.
