Prior to completing his career achievements, Mr. Brookens pursued an education at Chicago City College, earning an Associate of Arts in 1973. He completed additional coursework at DePaul University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. Upon finishing his postgraduate study at Spertus College, he acquired a Master of Science in 1983. He concluded his education at Roosevelt University, from which he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1999. Mr. Brookens is certified as a forensic addictions examiner by the National Association of Forensic Counselors, as an addictions counselor by the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association and is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Illinois.
To remain knowledgeable of changes in the field and offer his expertise, Mr. Brookens is active on many professional organizations including the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association. Notably, he is competent in American Sign Language, as well as Russian, Mandarin, French, Arabic, and Spanish. Recognized as a leader in his profession, Mr. Brookens has been featured in the 60th edition of Who's Who in America and the 24th edition of Who's Who in the World.
