House, Inc. as a clinical director, a counselor, and a program coordinator. Devoted to mental health services, she worked as a mental health technician for Children's Behavioral Services from 1990 until 1992. Earlier, she joined the St. Jude's Ranch for Children, serving as a social services coordinator between 1992 and 1997 and as a cottage parent from 1983 to 1989. Ms. Hughes's inaugural positions in the field were that of a clerk and an assistant for Sweitzer Photo Studio, and an x-ray technician for Muncy Valley Hospital.
A licensed clinical social worker, Ms. Hughes holds an Associate of Arts in social sciences from Clark County Community College, and a Bachelor of Arts in social work and a Master of Social Work from the University of Nevada in 1989, 1992, and 1994, respectively. She retains her professional alignment with the National Association of Social Workers, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the Nevadans for Common Good. She is a past member of the Nevada Youth Care Providers and the Family Advocates for Community Empowerment. During her spare time, Ms. Hughes has also dedicated herself to her community as an adult Bible study teacher for Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.
