Dr. Delberta Hollaway Coonrod Vannoy has been named a Harashin Educator Scholar by Nagaoka, Japan.

Having accrued over 40 years of distinction in her field, Dr. Coonrod Vannoy retired from her role as an educational consultant in 2002. Raised by teachers, she felt called to a career in education since childhood, and attributes her success to the support of her parents. She attended the University of Kansas, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in education in 1961. Continuing her education at Indiana University, she earned a Master of Science in education in 1972 and a Doctor of Education in 1977. Dr. Coonrod Vannoy subsequently completed postgraduate coursework at Texas Women's University.
From 1957 to 1972, Dr. Coonrod Vannoy found success as a classroom teacher in schools throughout Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana and Texas. In 1972, she became an associate instructor and a visiting assistant professor at Indiana University, where she remained in association until 1979. Between 1975 and 1976, Dr. Coonrod Vannoy was an assistant professor at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
Dr. Coonrod Vannoy became the president of Debcon, Inc., of Bloomington, Indiana, from 1979 to 1981, and consequently engaged in private practice consulting in the Bloomington area between 1981 and 1985. She returned to classroom-based instruction from 1985 until 2001 as a teacher for the Fort Worth Independent School District. From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Coonrod Vannoy served as the director of teacher education at Culver-Stockton College in Canton.
Dr. Coonrod Vannoy has been a consultant to clients as diverse as Fort Hays State University, Kansas, the Penn-Harris-Madison (Indiana) School Corporation, and Head Start. She has been named a Harashin Educator Scholar by Nagaoka, Japan; and was a visiting adjunct professor at Binh Duong University in Vietnam in 2016. Following her retirement from education, Dr. Coonrod Vannoy was a reporter and columnist for the Shelby County Herald, serving from 2003 to 2008. She is most proud of the relationships she has built with her students throughout the world, and of her work teaching biblical study to adults.
