Supported by more than 37 years of progressive practiced experience in banking, Ms. Tous de Torres retired in 2002 after spending the entirety of her career with Banco Popular in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Commencing her career with the banking firm in 1965, she worked her way up to senior vice president and corporate real estate administration manager by 1987, remaining in that role for over 15 years. Civically involved as well, she was a co-founder and president of the Puerto Rico Industrial Editors Association, as well as a former trustee of the Banco Popular Foundation from 1986 to 1987 and director of the Greater San Juan Committee in 1993. 1972, Ms. Tous de Torres was the director of the Banco Popular's employees blood donors program for the American Red Cross from 1980 to 1986 and spent time as the Bank's representative for the United Fund from 1980 to 1986. She was a member of the Construction Committee of the "Comisión de Planificación Estratégica, Proyecto Estrategia Puerto Rico" from 1994to 1995. She served as Trustee in the Board of the "Centro Cultural y de Servicios de Cantera", a non-profit corporation from 2005 to 2010.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Tous de Torres pursued formal education at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, cum laude, in 1965. She subsequently attended the Puerto Rico School of Banking and Inter-American University of Puerto Rico, receiving a Master of Business Administration, summa cum laude, in 1976. Ms. Tous de Torres is a certified lifetime business manager (CBM), as well as a certified facilities manager (CFM) and professional in human resources (PHR).
To remain abreast of developments in her areas of interest, Ms. Tous de Torres maintains affiliation with several related organizations. She is a member of the National Association of Female Executives, the National Association Corporation of Real Estate Executives (NACORE), the Building Owners Management Association (BOMA), who invited her as a guest speaker to its annual convention in Chicago, Illinois in 2002, the Urban Land Institute (ULI),the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM),the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Puerto Rico Museum of Art. Likewise, Ms. Tous de Torres is a Board Member, past president and secretary of the Santurce Rotary Club, who presented her with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. She is a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow. Ms. Tous de Torres is also founder and past president of the Corporation for the Development of the Hato Rey Financial District (CODEFIN).
As a testament to her success in the field, Ms. Tous de Torres received an Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from Inter-American University in 1976. She was also selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
