A trial lawyer with a focus on criminal law, personal injury cases, domestic relations, and divorce, Mr. Scremin has excelled as the principal and head trial attorney of his own private law practice, Anthony J. Scremin PA, A.K.A. Scremin Law, in Miami since 1978. He began his career as an associate at Hawkesworth & Kay in 1968, remaining in this position for one year before working as an associate and trial assistant at Steven, Demos, et al. and Welch & Carroll from 1969 to 1970. Mr. Scremin subsequently served an additional year as the head trial attorney of the Metro Transit Authority before becoming a partner and trial attorney at Abramson, Scremin et al. between 1971 and 1978.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Scremin completed service with the United States Coast Guard between 1959 and 1960. After his honorable discharge, he pursued a formal education at the University of Miami, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1966 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1968. Following his graduation, Mr. Scremin was admitted to practice law by numerous state and federal courts including the Florida Bar, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the 3rd, 9th and 11th Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Scremin initially became involved in his profession due to the influence of his upbringing and family history. His father, who was also named Anthony, advised him to seek a college education in law, citing the significant benefits and life experience that doing so would provide. The legal profession has persisted throughout the generations in Mr. Scremin's family, with his son, Anthony J. Scremin III, having become a lawyer in his own right.
Outside of his primary responsibilities, Mr. Scremin has remained aware of trends in his field through his affiliations with several pertinent organizations. He has maintained involvement with the American Arbitration Association, the Academy of Trial Lawyers of America, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Italian American Bar Association. Moreover, Mr. Scremin bears the distinction of being a member of the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi. He attributes his success to Artie Hawxworth, John Thorton and P.J. Carrol, all of whom were great mentors that left a significant impact on him.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Scremin has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades related to his field. In 1968, he accepted the Labor Law Society Outstanding Service Award and the Bar and Gavel Legal Society Certificate of Merit from the University of Miami. Today, Mr. Scremin resides in Miami with his wife, Iliana, and is the proud father of four wonderful children: Anthony III, Julie, Ann and Sylvia. He enjoys karate, weight-lifting, and construction in his spare time and would like to remembered by his peers as a hardworking professional attorney.
