Dr. Andresen is a materials scientist of more than 40 years. Hired as a consultant for Mechanical Technology in Latham, New York, in 1976, he subsequently landed a position as principal scientist in research and development with General Electric at the GE Global Research Center in Schenectady, New York, where he remained for 38 years, until 2016. He is an active consultant in retirement and is presently the owner of Andresen Consulting in Bakersfield, California.
Widely published, Dr. Andresen has authored more than 475 articles in scientific journals, has contributed numerous chapters to books and has served on the editorial board for Corrosion, the Journal of Science & Engineering. He has given hundreds of invited talks in his area of expertise as well.
To share his expertise with other industry professionals, Dr. Andresen was an expert review panelist for fusion energy and radioactive waste disposal with the United States Department of Energy, was a symposium advisory panelist on numerous occasions and is active as an executive committee member for the International Cooperative Group on Environmentally-Assisted Cracking. He also served on the trustee committee for faculty and staff compensation and presidential search at his alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Dr. Andresen notably holds 27 patents in his field.
Dr. Andresen received a bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 1972 and 1979. His inspiration to work in the sciences stemmed from his father's successful career as an engineer. His father was employed with Kaiser Engineers for many years, where he accomplished some extraordinary engineering feats in the industry.
Dr. Andresen is an elected fellow of the ASM International and NACE International. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering. As a member of NACE, Dr. Andresen served as chairman of the T2 group committee and research committee and received the 1996 Speller Award. Passionate about his community, Dr. Andresen has been very involved with Christ Episcopal Church in Schenectady, where he was a senior warden lecturer between 1982 and 2008.
Honored many times for his achievements, Dr. Andresen received a Lee Xun Award from the Institute for Metal Research in Shenyang, China, an Evans Award from the Institute of Corrosion in the United Kingdom and a Whitney and Dushman Award from GE. Selected as one of 50 Stars to Watch by Industry Week in 1996, Dr. Andresen is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the East.
