He completed additional postgraduate coursework at the University of Florida, from which he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in 1983. Dr. Wright began his professional field training at the aforementioned university, completing an internship from 1983 to 1984. The following year, he performed his residency in orthopaedic surgery until 1989 and his appointment as a clinical instructor between 1988 and 1989. Furthermore, Dr. Wright took on a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota from 1989 until 1990.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and having acquired a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery, Dr. Wright is an expert voice in his field and has published widely in publications such as the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Journal of Hand Surgery. His works include, "Reconstruction of the Humerus with an Intramedullary Fibular Graft: A Clinical and Biomechanical Study", "Treatment of Distal Radius Malunion", "Techniques in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery", "Revision of humeral components in shoulder arthroplasty" and "Augmented Glenoids in Shoulder Arthoplasty". Over an impressive career, Dr. Wright has contributed to over 180 journal publications, over 15 book chapters, 64 abstracts, and has given over 250 presentations on relevant topics in the field at both national and international conferences.
Dr. Wright has been recognized for his work with numerous honors and awards including four Marshall Horowitz Awards for the Outstanding Orthopaedic Educator from the Orthopaedic residents Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Florida and a Robert VanderGriend Award for the Outstanding Orthopaedic Educator from the Orthopaedic residents Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Florida. Eager to remain aware of developments in his field, Dr. Wright is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, and the International Wrist Investigators Workshop, among others.
