Retired research microbiologist Dr. Blogoslawski was employed with the National Marine Fisheries Service, a division of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, based in the Milford Laboratory from 1971 until 2017. Active in his chosen field since 1966, he initially worked as a microscopist for National Teaching Aids in Garden City Park, New York, for one year. Dr. Blogoslawski subsequently became a chemist for the Nassau County Department of Health in Mineola, New York, and a research microbiologist for Monsanto Biodize in College Park, New York.
Dr. Blogoslawski was an adjunct professor at Fairfield University in Connecticut for 12 years, beginning in 1973. Serving on the board of directors of the Long Island Sound Taskforce since 1985, he has also been active in the same capacity for the International Ozone Association since 1972. Dr. Blogoslawski was the president of the Association between 1987 and 1989.
In the course of Dr. Blogoslawski's professional journey, he learned that ozone gas was an effective disinfectant in saltwater. Fascinated by this discovery, he nearly switched careers to become a marine chemist, as many of his friends had. Likewise, he conducted a great deal of research on stratospheric depletion and aquatic applications. As a result of his years of study, Dr. Blogoslawski has contributed approximately 65 articles to various scientific journals and garnered a laudable reputation as the editor of Aquatic Applications of Ozone.
Dr. Blogoslawski received a Bachelor of Science in biology at Fairfield University in 1962. He later acquired an Master of Science in marine science at Long Island University in 1968. Concluding his academic efforts at Fordham University, Dr. Blogoslawski obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology in 1971.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Blogoslawski retains his professional affiliation with a number of organizations pertinent to his interests. Namely, he is a member of the New York Academy Sciences and the honor society of Sigma Xi. He has also been active locally on the board of directors for Schooner Inc. in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Blogoslawski formerly served as the chairman of the Bayview Association in Milford from 1980 to 1982.
In 2011, Dr. Blogoslawski was named to the Gunnery School Hall of Fame for Arts and Letters. He was also the recipient of a Chairman's Award from the Pan American committee of the International Ozone Association in 1990 and was named the Honorary President by the Association in 1989. Further, he received a President's Award from the Northeast Shellfish Sanitation Association in 1986. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Blogoslawski has been featured in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
