CHERRY HILL, NJ, September 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nancy Rokos has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As a child, Ms. Rokos received her first camera from collecting cereal box tops. From that moment on, she developed a passion for photography by taking pictures of family and friends. In 1975, Ms. Rokos obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration with a minor in photography from the Moore College of Art & Design.
Upon her graduation, Ms. Rokos began building her portfolio, utilizing a rented local studio to develop her photographs. As a result, the owner of the studio, who had previously worked at The Burlington County Times, admired her work, and suggested that she contact the newspaper for possible freelance work. Ms. Rokos started freelancing for The Burlington County Times, Jan 28, 1979, and became a staff photographer on Sept. 26, 1983, when a full time position was available. As photo journalism evolved, Ms. Rokos also added her creative skills in videography, for the publication. As of February 2019, Ms. Rokos is now freelancing for The Burlington County Times, due to corporate cuts in the newsroom.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Garden State Park was a staple in Ms. Rokos' community. She would go to the racetrack to watch the horse races and eventually decided to start photographing them. Ms. Rokos' love of equine photography subsequently blossomed as she attended major races, including the Woodward Stakes.
Throughout her career, Ms. Rokos also gained valuable expertise as a photographer with, and the owner of Equine Photo-Art from 2001 to the present. She further found success as a contract photographer for the Miss America Pageant from 1988 to 1995. A member of the Equine Photographers Network, Ms. Rokos has contributed to various animal rescues, as well as Goodwill during her spare time.
For her outstanding work, Mr. Rokos has won throughout her career numerous awards in the New Jersey Press Association, and the Philadelphia Press Association's annual daily newspaper photography contests. Accepting various awards from the Western States Horse Expo Equine Art Show between 2005 and 2007 and the Equine Ideal Spring/Winter Professional Division Photography Contests from 2008 until 2012, she became a finalist in the Inaugural Photo Contest of the Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation in 2013. More recently, the National Thoroughbreds Racing Association recognized her with the 2017 Media Eclipse Award for Outstanding Photography. Looking toward the future, Ms. Rokos intends to continue working for The Burlington County Times in a freelance capacity, while continuing her business in photographing thoroughbred horse racing.
