Dr. Amer has also lent his expertise as the co-founder and the president of Amer Particle Technology, Inc., Top Laboratories, and Amstell Inc. Additionally, he held the roles of a director of biological research at Bristol-Myers International in New York, a director of cardiovascular pharmacology at Mead Johnson Laboratories in Evansville, Indiana, and a senior pharmacologist at Wilson Laboratories in Chicago.
Renowned for his work as a pharmacologist, Dr. Amer's scientific contributions have included the role of cyclic nucleotides in hypertension and gastric secretion, the mechanism of action of beta-blockers in hypertension, and biological assays of hormones. He has written and conducted extensive research in the areas of hypertension, biochemical pharmacology, gastrointestinal pharmacology, adrenergic pharmacology, general pharmacology, and cancer research. During his career, Dr. Amer has given lectures at numerous conferences across the U.S., in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. He has also contributed more than 100 articles to various professional journals and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and the Clinical and Experimental Hypertension. He holds over 15 patents in his field on drug and food products development.
Born in Tanta, Egypt, Dr. Amer came to the U.S. in 1958. He soon after acquired a Master of Science in 1960 and a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacology at the University of Illinois in 1962. Upon his return to college, he obtained a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University in 1980. Among other professional organizations, Dr. Amer is a member of the American Society of Pharmacology Experimental Therapeutics, the European Society of Toxicology, and the American Society of Biological Chemists.
