Dr. Huff is an educator and coach with more than 28 years of service to her students and her community. Influenced by her middle school teachers, she began playing basketball as an eighth grader, during which time her desire to become a coach was born. Prior to embarking on her professional path, she initially pursued an education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning a Bachelor of Science in recreation in 1985, a Master of Arts in athletic administration in 1988 and a Master of Arts in physical education in 1990. She subsequently obtained an educational specialist degree from the University of Montevallo in 1994 as well as from Samford University in 1997. Dr. Huff concluded her studies with a Doctor of Education from Samford University in 2001.
In 1991, Dr. Huff began her career teaching physical education at Washington Elementary School and Washington Middle School in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1992, she accepted a position at Tarrant Middle School, where she served as a basketball coach until 1995 and a volleyball coach until 1994. From 1992 to 1996, Dr. Huff taught physical education at the K-4 level at Tarrant Elementary School and served as a middle school volleyball official throughout 1996.
During the 1995 to 1996 school year, Dr. Huff coached golf and basketball for Tarrant High School. She later worked as a physical education program specialist for Birmingham City Schools between 1996 and 2012 and an athletic liaison/assistant AD from 2013 to 2016. She is currently a program specialist for physical education with Heath & Driver EP. Dr. Huff has found much success as a girls' basketball coach for the Amateur Athletic Union since 1999.
Dr. Huff has lent her professional experience to numerous community organizations focused on fitness. She has excelled as the AHSAA State Volleyball volunteer ball girl coordinator since 2013, a volunteer with Girls on the Run since 2018, and a volunteer coach for the YMCA since 2006. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a $14,000 grant from the Health Action Partnership and multiple honors from the Alabama State Association for Health. Notably, Dr. Huff is the creator and an administrator of an after-school program called "Let's Move BCS," which has been running continuously since 2012.
