Supported by professional excellence, Dr. Taylor flourished as an education administrator for nearly three decades. At the beginning of his career, he worked as the director of education for Vanguard Schools in Haverford, Pennsylvania, from 1970 to 1974. Soon thereafter, he served the Phoenixville School District as a curriculum director. Dr. Taylor subsequently was successful as superintendent of the Maine School Administrative District #54 in Skowhegan, as well as the Augusta Maine Public Schools, from 1977 to 1986.
As he progressed through his career, Dr. Taylor taught at North Carolina State University in Raleigh from 1986 to 2011. He was simultaneously president of OR/Ed Laboratories in Oriental, North Carolina. Additional achievements to his credit include creating a system to mathematically optimize the location of new public schools. He authored over 150 articles in professional journals and has served on the editorial boards of several scientific journals. For his accomplishments, Dr. Taylor has been presented with the Edelman Award from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences in 1998, the Intellectual Benefit to Society Award from the Mensa Foundation in 2011, and various grants from the Eurasia Foundation between 1994 and 1996.
Prior to embarking on his professional career, Dr. Taylor attended Bucknell University, earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 1959. A short time later, he obtained a Bachelor Divinity degree from the Episcopal Theological School. Later, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science in 1964 and a Doctor of Education in 1966. Dr. Taylor also received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine in 1985 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Graduate Theological Foundation in 1995.
