Having accrued over 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Upton is currently a consultant in the field. Previously he worked as an associate professor at Gannon University from 1977 to 1984, before becoming a professor in 1985. Within that time, he also contributed as a visiting professor to the Catholic University of America. Currently, his book is still in progress. He was a visiting fellow at Princeton University, where he worked on his book on Aristotle science and metaphysics.
Dr. Upton initially pursued an education at the Catholic University of America, earning a Bachelor of Arts. He remained at the aforementioned university for further study, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1977. During his schooling, he was in the seminary, where his professors recommended that he take extra philosophy courses. As he was always interested in medicine and he saw a need for it, he chose to apply his skills to being a medical educator. He served on the Medical Ethics board of St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA for seven years. He taught Medical Ethics courses at Gannon University for 10 years.
A contributor of articles to many professional journals, Dr. Upton has published several article on Aristotle and Plato for several important international pieces. The highlight of his career is having written such influential works that he caught the interest of Princeton University. Notably, Dr. Upton was honored as a Basselin Foundation Scholar from 1968 to 1971 and named a Ryan Foundation Fellow form 1974 to 1977. In the years 1980, 1983, 1986, and 1988, he held the title of a National Endowment of the Humanities Fellow. Dedicated to his work, he is an active member of the American Philosophical Association and the Catholic Philosophical Association, for which he served on the board of directors from 1984 to 1986.
