A respected law enforcement officer, Mr. Saunders spearheads rescue units for individuals prone to wandering

Alcove CBS Radio awarded Gene Saunders the People of Distinction Award, and he was given a Citizens Service Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL, September 30, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gene Saunders has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Supported by professional experience in the police force and the military reserves, Mr. Saunders has served his community and done so with poise and respect for all citizens of Chesapeake, Virginia. Mr. Saunders had a taste of police duties when his reserves unit was re-designated as a military police unit. He enjoyed the responsibility, and in 1968, Mr. Saunders applied for a job with the Chesapeake Police Department. He was hired and served as a police officer for 33 years. He retired as a captain in 2001 and held every command in the police department, as well as command of the SWAT team for 23 years.

In 1999, Mr. Saunders founded his company Project Lifesaver International, a search and rescue program operated internationally by public safety agencies that is strategically designed for "at risk" individuals who are prone to the life threatening behavior of wandering. The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition. Mr. Saunders' inspiration for spearheading this project was due to the significant number of people with Alzheimer's disease his SWAT team searched for during his time with the Chesapeake Police Department. Mr. Saunders' goal in five years' time is to make Project Lifesaver free to everyone.

Mr. Saunders' work and dedication have not gone unnoticed by his community. Alcove CBS Radio awarded him the People of Distinction Award, and he was given a Citizens Service Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Additionally, Mr. Saunders holds a certificate of police administration from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He has also been a Federal Aviation Administration licensed drone pilot since 1978. He is a member of the National Sheriffs' Association, Florida Sheriffs Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Police Association. Mr. Saunders feels his success would not have been possible without the motivation and inspiration from Sheriff John Newhart from the Chesapeake office, as well as his own persistence when people doubted his abilities.
