Mr. Vander Aarde is a minister of the Reformed Church in America with more than 40 years of service to his community. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, completing an Associate of Arts in 1956 before continuing his education at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, from which he graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts. Mr. Vander Aarde felt called to the ministry and was ordained by the Reformed Church in America in 1961. In the same year, he obtained a Master of Divinity from the Western Theological Seminary of Holland, Michigan.
From 1961 until 1968, Mr. Vander Aarde was a missionary for the Reformed Church in America's Board of World Ministries. He served the community of Christ's Church on the Hill of Great Falls as a pastor and a clergyman between 1970 and 2001. In addition to his efforts in local civic endeavors, he joined the American Mission Hospital in Kuwait as its chief executive officer and as a hospital chaplain. Mr. Vander Aarde has completed extensive postgraduate coursework in pastoral education and pastoral counseling at the Luther Theological Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mr. Vander Aarde is deeply involved in numerous charitable efforts serving healthcare and human services, including work for the Mental Health Association of Montana, the Lewis and Clark Region Blood Services Committee, and the Cascade County Sheriff's Chaplaincy Program. He is a member of Amnesty International, the International Association for Mission Studies, and the Great Falls Ministerial Association. Mr. Vander Aarde has been the recipient of many accolades for his work, including the 1999 Montana Volunteer of the Year Award from the American Red Cross, and a 2001 Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to Humankind from Northwestern College.
