Beginning his career at the aforementioned organization as an engineer and an analyst from 1980 to 1983, he subsequently became a code developer between 1984 and 1989 and a project leader from 1998 until 2002. At Centric Engineering Systems, he spent eight years as the manager of quality assurance, the director of software development, and the vice president of research and development. Prior to assuming his current position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Dr. Ferencz was a group leader of methods and development from 2002 to 2015.
Before becoming an esteemed engineering professional, Dr. Ferencz pursued a formal education at Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1980 and a Master of Science in civil engineering in 1981. At Stanford University, he earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1984 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1989. Dr. Ferencz was mentored and inspired by his doctoral advisor, Thomas JR Hughes.
Notably, Dr. Ferencz conducted research into simulation methods for additive manufacturing. Leveraging his considerably knowledge, he has contributed a number of chapters to textbooks.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Ferencz remains informed of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Academy of Mechanics. Likewise, Dr. Ferencz is affiliated with Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, gardening, and studying history.
In light of his many achievements in the field, Dr. Ferencz has been recognized with a number of awards and accolades throughout his career.
