An accomplished listee, Ms. Hill celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Hill began her career in education when she became involved with the PTA organization at the school where her children attended. The administrators noticed her success in organization and fundraising skills, as teachers waited anxiously for her to move up to the next grade level. She was invited to work at the school full-time and encouraged to pursue higher education and teacher licensure. From 1977 to 1983, Ms. Hill was a library aide for the Walker County Board of Education in Alabama.
In 1982, Ms. Hill received an Associate of Arts from Walker College, before attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in 1983. She served as a fourth grade classroom teacher for the Walker County Board of Education from 1983 to 1984. Before joining the Jefferson County Board of Education in August 1984 as librarian and information media specialist, a position she held until her retirement in 2014. During her first year to be a certified teacher, she returned to UAB and completed a Master of Arts in 1985 and an Educational Specialist degree in 1990. In a period of four and a half years total time, Ms. Hill became a National Board Certified teacher in 2004, which she attained in one attempt. An accomplishment she cites as a career highlight.
Ms. Hill is the recipient of more than 68 honors and awards for her contributions to the classrooms and her community. She was an active member of the Birmingham International Center (BIC), an organization that provided free programs about foreign countries to students. Due to her dedication, Ms. Hill was chosen to travel to Turkey representing them, She took the BIC groups to two countries where they performed to thousands of students. In 1993, she was chairman of the local chapter of the Leukemia Society and is currently doing community service as a member of the local Alpha Delta Kappa Phi. While working, Ms. Hill helped and supported many area schools. She has continued to help four schools since her retirement. For over 48 years, Ms. Hill has dedicated her life to schools.
