Since 2016, Dr. Meikle has served as an associate dean and professor of sociology in the College of Communication, Languages, Arts, and Social Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith.

Dr. Meikle holds a Doctor of Philosophy in sociology from Mississippi State University, and a Master of Philosophy in geography and a Bachelor of Arts in geography and social sciences from the University of the West Indies. Her administrative and planning expertise, instructional experience, and research agendas have unfolded in a variety of organizations in international settings, and the distinctiveness of each environment has nurtured and enriched her leadership techniques and collegiate attitudes. She began her career as an advanced level geography teacher at Manchester High School in Jamaica in 1987, holding the position for two years. From there, she served as a teaching assistant and tutor in the Department of Geography at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, from 1990 to 1993 before becoming a rural development consultant for internationally sponsored development projects, a position she held from 1994 to 2000. A former adjunct lecturer at the University of the West Indies from 1996 to 2000, she also taught sociology at Mississippi State University from 2001 to 2004 and rose to the rank of assistant professor of sociology and community development at Delta State University from 2005 to 2010. She also served as an associate professor of sociology and community development, interim chair of the Division of Social Sciences and History, director of the Center for Community and Economic Development, and chair of the Division of Social Sciences and History before her departure from Delta State in July 2016.
The progressive insights developed as she solved diverse problems and the interpersonal skills that she cultivated as she interacted with students, professors, diverse university administrators, community partners and multilateral and bilateral agencies positioned her to handle extensive, complex and multifaceted responsibilities positioned for her current role. Since 2016, Dr. Meikle has served as an associate dean and professor of sociology in the College of Communication, Languages, Arts, and Social Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith. Integrated in her cumulative work experience are professional ethics and expertise that help her to fulfill leadership roles in the areas of academics, administration, research, and community development. As an administrator, she engages in diverse aspects of curriculum development, planning, administrative, and budgetary activities. Embracing the belief that leadership is about service through collaboration and that the success of an organization is dependent on the effort of many, she responds to diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff, and community partners with an astute eye for the overall quality of life for all.
Dr. Meikle served as a consultant community development specialist throughout the Caribbean for a number of years. She has published several peer-reviewed journal articles as well as book chapters. She has also published numerous technical reports within her area of expertise. She is a noted principal investigator for several grants. She maintains membership with the Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences, the Engaging Scholarship Consortium, the Community Development Society, the Rural Sociological Society, the Southern Sociological Society and Alpha Kappa Delta, among others.
Civically involved as well, Dr. Meikle has contributed her time and expertise to numerous community endeavors. She served on the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis Community Development Advisory Council. She is a member of the University Rotary Club in Fort Smith, where she is a Paul Harris Fellow. Likewise, as an artist she donates her artwork for auctions to support university scholarship funds and charities.
As a testament to her success and longevity in the industry, Dr. Meikle received the Black History Month Educator of the Year Award (now the IHL Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award) from the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees in 2010. In addition, she was named to the National Academic Affairs Chancellor's List from 2004 to 2005 and attained the Special Recognition Award from the Institute for Community-Based Research in 2007. Earlier in her career, she was an Inter-American Foundation Fellow for Grassroots Research. A celebrated Marquis listee, she was highlighted in the 65th edition of Who's Who in America.
