OURAY, CO, October 08, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mr. Staehle with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Staehle celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Alan Staehle has led a successful, rewarding career in police and public safety for more than 50 years and in the business world as well. Among 3 business startups, his most successful was Rocky Mountain Motorcycles, Inc. in Boulder, Colorado (1962-1976), selling Triumph, BMW, and Suzuki machines.

Public safety work began with an interview with the Boulder Police Chief that Alan arranged for a friend just back from Viet Nam, Alan attended too, and ultimately both he and his friend were hired, Thus began his progression from Patrolman to street Supervisor 1968-1971, and ultimately a major shift to join a newly elected Sheriff, Brad Leach, in 1971, In that job Alan served as commander of various divisions and ultimately as Undersheriff. Awards were given to Mr. Staehle for work well done while in the police department and then Departmental awards for the Sheriff's Office. Although the United States was in turmoil in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Boulder Sheriff's Office was a leader in bringing about positive change. For example they established a third certified Police Training Academy in Colorado; it served several neighboring police agencies as well as the Sheriff's Office. They built a Regional Communications Center and 911 Answering-Point and worked with the San Bernardino, CA, County Sheriff's Office in creating standardized responses to major incidents that are now used in the National Incident Command System.

Learning was a continuing part of Mr. Staehle's accomplishments; he majored in chemistry on scholarship at the University of Colorado. However, in his own words he "goofed off', leading to requisite time in the U.S. Army training as a heavy equipment operator and leaving the Army Reserves as Sergeant. Continued interest in education led to Federal police training grants, Master's Program classes with IBM and the University of Colorado and ultimately the FBI Academy and University of Virginia. Mr. Staehle credits his successes in law enforcement and public safety to' a broad mix of cultural experiences, including in the U.S. Army, good training and education, and a shared interest in serving the public.

Upon retiring from the Sheriff's Office (1991) he returned to Ouray County, CO. Although retiring from the business world and police/sheriff jobs, he wasn't done yet. Small communities must base many of their available services on volunteers. Thus Mr. Staehle became an EMT, Medic.al First Responder and finally ambulance driver. He became certified as an ambulance driver trainer and in Wilderness EMT. Throughout his careers he taught motorcycle safety (Motorcycle Safety Foundation and State of Colorado), ATV and Snowmobile Safety, and Elderly Driving Safety (AARP). He recounts a gratifying experiences when trained motorcycle riders later indicated that "the training they had received had saved their lives."

Western Colorado was growing fast when Mr. Staehle retired there. After experiencing the recent growth pressures in Boulder, in 1994 he decided to run for (and won) two terms as County Commissioner, He served on the Governor's "Smart Growth" task force and other County and local committees. He was also a key figure in the "Red Mountain Project" where old mining claims were purchased from willing sellers and reincorporated into the National Forest system, He worked with neighboring Counties, the Trust for Public Land, and other citizen volunteers to preserve this important area and the businesses dependent on it. The County also took on responsibility for an Ice Climbing Park while he was a commissioner which substantially improved the economics of the County.

After the tragedy of 9/11/2001 Mr. Staehle worked 2 years for the County gratis, securing grants for all 13 County emergency service groups. More than half a million dollars in grants enhanced the preparedness level that enables all County First Responders to communicate with each other and the surrounding County and State Agencies. Alan was then appointed County Emergency Manager which he performed until his latest retirement (2013). He became certified by FEMA to teach multiple levels of Incident Command and was chosen Colorado Emergency Manager of the Year prior to retiring. Besides enjoying his retirement with motorcycling, hunting. fishing and photography in his spare time, he is currently the chairman of the Ouray Fire Protection District and on call for any county radio communications problems.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Staehle has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
