A tenured professor of economics at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) since 1984, Dr. Park began teaching on campus as an assistant professor in 1975. Teaching many courses during his tenure, he also chaired the department of economics on three occasions, directed the Center for Economic and Business Research, was a member of the university taskforce and curriculum committee and participated in several writing across the curriculum workshops. Prior to joining the university, Dr. Park was a research assistant at Utah State University and a payroll accountant at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Some of Dr. Park's research interests have included corporate strategies and firm performance, dynamic capabilities, business practices and mechanism design, as well as knowledge and competence creation, ITCs (information and communications technologies) and AI (artificial intelligence), innovation, corporate competitiveness, creativity and entrepreneurship. As a result of his research, he has contributed many articles in scholarly journals on topics such as supply chain management and unified theory of the firm, corporate strategies and dynamic capabilities of the firm. He has also served as an active participant in more than 40 conferences as a paper presenter, discussant and session chair. Dr. Park is a former editor of the SVSU Economic and Business Review, a former editorial board member of the Detroit Business Journal, and a former associate editor of Change Management: An International Journal.
An alumnus of Kyung Hee University, Dr. Park received a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1961. He soon after acquired a Master of Arts in economics at Seoul National University in 1966, a Master of Business Administration in quantitative analysis at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1970, and a Doctor of Philosophy in economics at Utah State University in 1975. Dr. Park is a member and past president of The Korea-America Economic Association, as well as a member and past president of the Michigan chapter of the Mid-Michigan Korean Association. He was also member of the American Economic Association, The Econometric Society, and the Regional Science Association.
Securing more than 15 grants during his career, Dr. Park also received a Ted & Ruth Braun Research Fellowship Award and was an international scholar and Fulbright scholarship recipient at Kyung Hee University from the U.S. Department of State. He received a Korea Foundation field research fellowship in 2016. Among other awards, he received a 1989 Earl Warrick Award for Research Excellence, 1990 Distinguished Faculty Award from the Michigan Association of Governing Boards, Professorial Continuing Improvement Award in 2003 and Excellence in Research Award in 2013. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Park has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
