Prior to obtaining his current roles, he served as the president of HealthSpan from 1992 to 1993, the president and chief executive officer of Health One Corporation from 1987 to 1992, and the president of Health Central Corporation from 1980 to 1987, having been the president of Health Central, Inc., since 1978 and Health Central System since 1976. Earlier in his career, Mr. Wegmiller excelled as the administrator of Fairview-Southdale Hospital from 1966 to 1976, receiving the American College of Healthcare Executives Robert S. Hudgens Award as Outstanding Young Healthcare Executive of the Year, having worked as an assistant administrator since 1965, and an assistant administrator of Fairview Hospital from 1962 to 1965.
Mr. Wegmiller first pursued an education with the University of Minnesota, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. He continued his studies with the school, earning a Master of Health Administration in 1962. Mr. Wegmiller is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Hospital Association, and the Minnesota Hospital Association, and is a member of Rotary International. He has previously maintained involvement as a staff assistant in the administration of several U.S. presidents, including Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan. A member of the advisory committee to Senator Durenberger's Healthcare, Mr. Wegmiller is additionally a trustee of the National Advisory Council on Social Security and the National Committee for Quality Healthcare.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wegmiller has been recognized for his contributions. The Minneapolis Jaycees named him Outstanding President of the Year, and he received the Young Man of the Year Award, as well as the National Healthcare Award by B'nai B'rith. He was also bestowed with the Merit Award from the Duke University Program in Healthcare Administration Alumni Association, and was inducted into the Healthcare Hall of Fame in 2013.
