A recognized personal injury and trial attorney, he handles matters of personal injury law, insurance law, business litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Since passing the bar in 1969, he has represented hundreds of injured clients and their families, from highway, boating and construction accidents to those involved with professional negligence. Mr. DeSanto has likewise accumulated experience litigating commercial and contract disputes for clients against banks, insurance companies, partnerships and corporations.
Beginning his career prosecuting criminal cases from traffic to murder as an assistant state's attorney with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office in Waukegan, Mr. DeSanto later became an associate for a local firm where he tried cases in the civil courts. By 1975, he became a partner at Rawles, Katz & DeSanto. Mr. DeSanto thereafter served as a senior partner of DeSanto & Bonamarte.
Holding several esteemed positions during his career, Mr. DeSanto spent 10 years as an associate lecturer of business law at the College of Lake County between 1974 and 1984. He was also a lecturer in trial technique and practice for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Illinois Bar Association and was the co-editor of the Tort Trends newsletter. Mr. DeSanto is currently on the board of directors of the Illinois State Bar Association Mutual Insurance Company, where he previously served as the chairman of the board.
An alumnus of the University of Illinois, Mr. DeSanto received a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He soon after acquired a Doctor of Jurisprudence at DePaul University in 1969. He has been admitted to the Illinois Bar Association, the Northern District of the U.S. District Court of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a certified meditator and arbitrator of the 19th Judicial Circuit in Illinois.
Invested in his community, Mr. DeSanto was a trustee of the Village of Libertyville, is a past president of the Libertyville Rotary, a past secretary of the Waukegan Rotary, and a former parish council president of St. Joseph's Church. He also served as a member of the Lake County chapter of the Easter Seal Society. Recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer every year since 2006 and as an Illinois Leading Lawyer in 1997, Mr. DeSanto is also an AV rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell since 2002. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
An elected fellow of the Illinois Bar Institute, Mr. DeSanto is also a member of several other industry-related organizations. He has notably served as the president of the Lake County Bar Association, as well as a panel member of the American Arbitration Association.
