Nancy L. Goodyear, Ed.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    DAHLONEGA, GA, October 14, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Nancy L. Goodyear, Ed.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Goodyear celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Dr. Goodyear is a celebrated educator whose long and distinguished career spanned more than 40 years. Originally she was a secondary teacher at the Bahamas Baptist College, Nassau, Bahamas, for the Foreign Mission Board with the Southern Baptist Convention in Richmond, Virginia, and a secondary science teacher for the Pine Bluff School District in Arkansas. She later accepted her first faculty appointment in higher education in 1976. Hired by Bainbridge State College in Bainbridge, Georgia, she taught as a professor of biology on campus for 25 years, until she retired in 2001. She subsequently held teaching positions at several other institutions, including the Tallahassee Community College, San Joaquin Delta College and Solano Community College. In 2000 Dr. Goodyear also served as one of the writers of an environmental science course for the first e-core curriculum for the University System of Georgia.

During her career, Dr. Goodyear has made numerous presentations across the United States and Canada. She has covered topics that have included everything from disease simulation to the use of humor to promote critical thinking in a general biology classroom. Writing extensively as well, she has contributed several articles to peer reviewed journals, contributed a chapter to the 2005 book "Laboratory Manual for Physiology" titled "Reaction Time of Fixed and Pseudo-Random Auditory Stimulus" and served as a reviewer for the 2002 book "The Use of Animals in Higher Education: Problems, Alternatives and Recommendations." An award-winning poet, Dr. Goodyear's poem "My Lizard Friend" was published in the 1989 edition of the American Poetry Anthology.

Dr. Goodyear earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology at MacMurray College, where she conducted research in the comparison of vertical distribution of lichens in Arkansas and Illinois. Going on to complete a Master of Science in bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin, she studied the growth of staphylococcal food poisoning organisms in fermented Genoa sausage. Continuing her academic efforts at Auburn University, Dr. Goodyear acquired a Doctor of Education in science education in 1976.

Although her doctoral degree primarily focused on curriculum development, Dr. Goodyear also studied in such areas as science programs and educational psychology. While at Auburn University, she also conducted research in the methodologies that promote cognitive growth as defined by Piaget's theory. Dr. Goodyear has conducted further studies at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City and the Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories of the University of Minnesota.

A former member-at-large of the Association for Biology Laboratory Education, Dr. Goodyear also spent time as the chair of the nominations committee and lab initiative grants as well as the chair of the first regional meeting. She has been very active with Delta Kappa Gamma as well, as both a program chair and treasurer. In Cairo, GA., Dr. Goodyear worked as a farm helper at Hartsfield Farms and for the Grady County Extension Agency scouting peanut and soybean fields for pests. Dr. Goodyear has also been active with St. Marks Refuge Association, a non-profit wildlife organization that occupies almost 79,000 acres along 45 miles of coastline south of Tallahassee, Florida.

Securing several grants from Bainbridge State College between 1984 and 1996, Dr. Goodyear also received one from the Georgia Endowment for the Humanities. For her excellence in academia, she was named Distinguished Professor of the Year by the Bainbridge State College Association of Educators in 2000. Dr. Goodyear formerly received a Meritorious Faculty Award from Bainbridge Sate College in 1992.

For her service to the community, Dr. Goodyear was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation for helping with the Decatur Company Science Fair in Georgia in 1996 and an Appreciation Award for helping with the first Regional Association for Biology Laboratory Education, also in 1996. For her poetry, she received an Original Poetry Award at the Bahamian Art and Drama Festival in 1971. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Goodyear has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
