Mrs. Li is renowned as an expert in pathology and microbiology with more than 30 years of contributions to her field. She holds a Master of Science from the University of Wisconsin, and earned certifications as a microbiology specialist in 1982 and a histocompatibility specialist in 1994. From 1967 to 1968, Mrs. Li worked as a research assistant at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. She further found success as a biology associate of Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York, from 1968 to 1969, and a research assistant at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, from 1969 to 1973. From 1974 to 1976, Mrs. Li served as a research assistant at Case Western University.
Mrs. Li additionally excelled as the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1976 as a section leader, rising to the post of a technical specialist in 1985. She was also active as a microbiologist for Sohio Research in Warrensville, Ohio, from 1982 to 1985. Notably, Mrs. Li would remain with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation until 1997.
Mrs. Li holds patents for several bacterially-generated surfactant compounds and an enzyme-linked immunoassay used in infectious disease antibody tests. She has contributed research to the improvement of the test procedure in DNA typing for use in paternity tests and class II HLA typing used in bone marrow transplant. A Tzu Chi commissioner, she became a Reiki master in 1998. Moreover, Mrs. Li is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
