With more than 25 years of experience in medical education to his credit, Dr. Ghazle has become an authority in his industry. He began his career path as a sonographer at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics from 1991 to 1994, a sonographer at the University of Rochester Medical Center from 1994 to 2018, and the director of the diagnostic medical sonography program at the Rochester Institute of Technology since 1994. Dr. Ghazle currently serves as a professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, the president of the Rochester Ultrasound Society, and the Chair of the Rochester Institute of Technology Faculty Grievance Committee.
Prior to becoming an esteemed medical educator, Dr. Ghazle pursued higher education with a Bachelor of Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1988. He earned a Master of Science from the University of Rochester in 1991 and a Doctor of Education from the University of Rochester in 2008. Dr. Ghazle was mentored by his grandmother and his wife, who always encouraged him to pursue his passions and serve society in an open, honest, respectful and tolerant manner and accept unconditionally the same in others.
A civic-minded professional, Dr. Ghazle volunteered prolifically in his field and community. He was active as a site visitor at the Joint Review Committee of Diagnostic Medical Sonography of St. Paul from 1995 to 2008. Dr. Ghazle has served on the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) Board of Directors, the SDMS Government Relations Committee, the SDMS Educators and Continuing Medical Education Review Committee, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS), the SDMS-AAOS Writing Panel on Pediatric Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip in Infants, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Strategic Planning Steering Committee, (RIT) University Council, Treasurer and Operations Officer of the Executive Committee of the RIT Academic Senate, the RIT Faculty Affairs Committee, the RIT Future of Faculty Taskforce and numerous other University committees. Dr. Ghazle has contributed a number of articles to professional journals and has spoken at various organizations. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Ghazle remains informed of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He excelled as a Western Upstate New York representative of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography from 1997 to 2003. Moreover, Dr. Ghazle is the proud father of four children and the husband of Afifa H. Ghazle.
Dr. Ghazle's strong belief in diversity and inclusiveness has driven him to reach out to serve on community organizations such as RIT Academic Support Committee, Institute Interdisciplinary Committee, Institute Diversity and Recruitment Task Force, Student Advocacy Program, and Affirmative Action Committee which aimed at developing strategies and plans to assist faculty, staff and students inside and outside the classroom. Working hand-in hand with faculty, staff, administrators, and students to promote safe, respectful, effective, explorative, diverse, inclusive and positive learning and working environment has always been Dr. Ghazle's firm commitment. Dr. Ghazle is proud to have instilled values of civic engagement, tolerance and understanding in future generations.
Due to his many achievements in the field, he has received a number of awards and accolades throughout his career. Dr. Ghazle has received the 2018 Edwina Award for Diversity and Inclusion, the 2017 RIT Excellence in Student Life Mentor Award, the 2014 Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Distinguished Educator Award, the 2002 RIT Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching, the 2002 RIT Student Affairs Award for Promoting Learning Outside the Classroom, the RIT Development and Alumni Relations Recognition and Commendation for Extraordinary Service Award and the RIT Alpha Sigma Lambda Honorary Society Mentor Award and the University of Rochester Medical Center Gold ICARE Star Award for providing high-quality patient care. Likewise, he was a finalist in the Provost's Excellence in Teaching Award from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Dr. Ghazle has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
