ERIE, PA, October 21, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Janet M. Wilson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Wilson celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A tenured art educator, Ms. Wilson retired in 2012 after more than 30 years in the classroom. Hired as a substitute teacher for the City of Erie, Pennsylvania, school district in 1979 just after acquiring her degree, she later became a substitute contract art teacher for the district. Finally, in 1988, she was afforded the opportunity to secure a full-time position as an art teacher, traveling to various elementary schools throughout the district teaching students. Prior to her career with the district, Ms. Wilson was a camp counselor and an assistant director at the Dr. G. Barber Center in Erie and an arts and crafts supervisor for the City of Erie and the Erie Young Men's Christian Association.
As an artist, Ms. Wilson's work was first exhibited in group shows at the Jury Show and the Printmaking Show at Edinboro University during the late 1970s. In recent years, she has been featured at The Kaye Mona Kang Art Show in April 2019, as well as at the Dr. & Mrs. Robert Guelcher Art Show every year between 2012 and 2017. Ms. Wilson was also featured at the Faculty Art Show at the Harding School in Erie between 2008 and 2009.
Born and raised in Erie, Ms. Wilson's mother was a science and English teacher who taught for 46 years. Meanwhile, she drew a wealth of inspiration from her father, who worked as a realtor and at The Erie Fish Company, a family business. Due to the influence of her parents, Ms. Wilson later received a Bachelor of Science in art education at Edinboro University in 1978 and soon after became a certified art teacher in Pennsylvania.
Active in her field, Ms. Wilson has been a member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Erie Education Association, the Pennsylvania Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association. She is also a member of the Erie Art Museum, which features a collection of more than 8,000 objects and includes American ceramics, Tibetan paintings, Indian bronzes, photography, and comic book art. In 1989, Ms. Wilson was named Teacher of the Year at McKinley Elementary in Erie. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been featured in the fourth and sixth editions of Who's Who in American Education.
