Ms. Corriveau celebrates more than 60 years as an educator. Working throughout Michigan in the public school system, she devoted the majority of her career to Wayne-Westland Community Schools. She also taught at her alma mater, Eastern Michigan University. Retiring from the classroom in 1992, Ms. Corriveau continues to serve as founder and director of Dynamic Tutoring Service in Ypsilanti, Michigan, which she established in 1979.
Throughout the years, Ms. Corriveau has contributed to several nonprofit charities and organizations, including Autism Speaks, Reading is Fundamental and Feeding America. She also authored the book "Pupils Tutoring Pupils" in 1973. An alumnus of Eastern Michigan University, Ms. Corriveau received a Bachelor of Science in 1959. She soon after acquired a Master of Arts on campus in 1961. She has continued her education in learning disabilities. She has kept current in education through professional reading, online classes and conferences.
A member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Education Association and the Michigan Reading Association, Ms. Corriveau has also been involved with several avocational organizations. She is notably active with the Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce in Michigan and the Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Best known as CHADD, it is the nation's leading nonprofit organization serving people affected by attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. She is a member of the Learning Disabilities Association and has participated in conferences for LDA.
Named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by Detroit News, an honor brought about by her former students, Ms. Corriveau was also honored in Women of Distinction for the State of Michigan by Delta Kappa Gamma. Further, she received a Pupils Teaching Pupils: A Step toward Individualized Instruction Award from the State of Michigan. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Corriveau has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
Born in Imlay City, Michigan, Ms. Corriveau grew up in a peat farming community. Surrounded by Hispanic families, she would often teach the children how to speak English. She even taught two adults how to read when she was 14 years old. Ms. Corriveau later married her husband Albert Corriveau. She resides in Ypsilanti.
