He has served as a partner of the law firm Reid & Priest in New York City from 1978 to 1987 and has also been a partner with Lord, Bissell & Brook in Washington, D.C., from 1975 to 1978. Prior to these esteemed roles, Mr. Medvecky worked as the vice president, general counsel, and secretary for Amtrak in Washington, D.C., from 1971 to 1975.
Mr. Medvecky considers his time at Amtrak to be the highlight of his career as he was able to expand upon his leadership and law abilities. He took immense satisfaction from helping to facilitate the growth of Amtrak, the national railroad corporation, which at that point was still in its infancy. Leveraging his abundant skills to accomplish his tasks quickly and efficiently, he hired the company's entire legal department as well as oversaw government relations with civilians. At this time, Amtrak was a uniquely private, nonprofit corporation that was funded by Congress, which was highly unique for the time. It served as a model for future transportation corporations, and Mr. Medvecky's involvement contributed to the company's success.
In addition to these noteworthy roles, Mr. Medvecky worked as a general attorney for the Southern New England Telephone Company in New Haven, Connecticut, from 1957 to 1971. Prior to becoming active in the role of a partner with Lord, Bissell & Brook in Washington, D.C., he was an associate with the firm's Chicago office from 1955 to 1957. Furthermore, Mr. Medvecky has always been an athlete and has participated in sports throughout all his levels of schooling.
In preparation for his career in law, Mr. Medvecky graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1952, after which he matriculated at Harvard Law School. He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence in in 1955 and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association the same year. Mr. Medvecky's additional bar admissions include the Connecticut Bar Association in 1958, the District of Columbia Bar Association in 1972, and the Florida Bar in 1989.
