After working as an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for nearly three decades, Mr. Faires went into an entirely different direction after retirement. Becoming involved in the country music arena as a concert promoter and producer for JF Productions in Herndon, Virginia, in 1986, he maintained activity in this capacity for 19 years. Introduced to the entertainment industry after visiting Nashville, Tennessee, on a trip with a friend of his from the FBI, Mr. Faires fell in love with the genre and, upon his return home, learned that the District of Columbia was a major country music area in need of promotors. During his years of concert promotion he had the pleasure of working with such noted artists as Roy Clark, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Emmy Lou Harris, Dottie West, Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, Leann Rimes, Louise Mandrell, Charlie Daniels, the Judds, the Statler Brothers, Randy Travis, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks and most of the new artists who came up during the 1980's and 1990's.
Mr. Faires became involved with the FBI by coincidence. After graduating from high school and preparing to attend college, a local police officer, who happened to be a friend of his family, mentioned that the bureau was seeking candidates. Submitting an application, Mr. Faires was later hired as a fingerprint technician in 1950. One year later, he went on military leave, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After completing basic and specialized training, Mr. Faires served for three years in Austria and became an air traffic controller. Upon his return to the bureau, he attended college at night, earned two degrees and continued to advance in rank, achieving the role of a special agent and supervisory special agent.
An alumnus of Blackstone College, Mr. Faires holds a Bachelor of Laws. He also holds a Bachelor of Commercial Science in accounting from Southeastern University. Mr. Faires holds special certifications through the FBI as a police instructor in the subjects of fingerprints, general management and hostage negotiations. Maintaining his affiliation with several industry-related organizations, he is active as a member of the Country Music Association and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Mr. Faires has received numerous Letters of Commendation from the director of the FBI for his career in government and is a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in the first through third editions of Who's Who in Entertainment.
