Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Zeine accrued a wealth of extraordinary academic achievements, most of which have allowed her to approach medicine and pathology with the perspective of a businesswoman and scientific expert. Initially pursuing an education at the International College in Beirut, Lebanon, from which she obtained a Baccalaureat in Sciences, with high distinction, in 1980, she continued her studies at the American University of Beirut, where she earned a teaching diploma in education in 1983, a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1983 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1987. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Zeine graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in experimental medicine from the School of Graduate Studies at McGill University in 1993.
Soon thereafter, Dr. Zeine began her clinical training as a research associate, garnering valuable experience in internal medicine at the University of Ottawa between 1995 and 1998 as well as in neuropathology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University from 1998 to 2000. While conducting research in these posts, she accepted a certificate in problem-based learning at the latter medical college in 1996. Gaining further firsthand pathological medical knowledge through residencies and fellowships at the Montefiore Medical Center in association with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University between 2000 and 2004, Dr. Zeine concluded her academic efforts in the Keller Graduate School of Management at the DeVry College of New York, attaining a graduate certificate in business administration in 2011 and a Master of Business Administration in human resources management, with distinction, in 2012.
Certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates since 1998, Dr. Zeine has been celebrated for her scholarly application of her vast knowledge of business administration through her work in pathology, having been published in various fields. Additionally, she completed rotations at Massachusetts General Hospital and Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School while formally seeking her education, a firm example of her dedication and driven work ethic. Discovering breakthroughs in neuroimmunology, neuropathology, cancer pathology and multiple sclerosis, Dr. Zeine furthered her research as a scientist in the Center for Dementia Research at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research between 2004 and 2005.
Dr. Zeine fostered her passion for academia following her educational aspirations at a number of prestigious medical institutes, working in research faculty positions at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University and the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago between 2006 and 2008. Prior to her tenure at the Saint James School of Medicine, she flourished as an associate professor of basic medical sciences at the Saint Martinus University Faculty of Medicine while working abroad for several months in 2014. Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. Zeine contributed to the Saint James School of Medicine in many additional capacities throughout her impressive tenure, including as a research mentor for teams of medical students, a leader of various clubs, a chairperson for multiple committees, a health fair supervisor and a coordinator for Science Day.
Dr. Zeine found success with her written works as well, having been published in multiple disciplines in more than 15 journals, including the Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education, the International Journal of Business and Applied Sciences, Organizational Cultures: An International Journal, Clinical Cancer Research, and Modern Pathology: An Official Journal of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, Inc., among others. The former editor of SJScience, she further prospered as an editorial advisory board member for the Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education since 2013 and an associate editor for Common Ground Publishing since 2014. Moreover, Dr. Zeine has presented myriad lectures and abstracts, many of which have procured awards, reviewed articles for peer-reviewed journals, and co-authored "The Strategic Management of Higher Education Institutions: Serving Students as Customers for Institutional Growth."
As a noted teacher, Dr. Zeine utilized her brilliance in strategic management, organizational culture and teamwork effectiveness to educate her students in pathology and current issues in health and medicine. Research subjects in which she has served as a mentor include the neuropathology of chronic traumatic encephalopathy and Zika virus infections, anticancer effects of cannabinoids, medical marijuana in multiple sclerosis and Huntington disease, sensory stimulation for disorders of consciousness, ketogenic diet effects in epilepsy and cancer, and even social media usage by personality type. Having witnessed the remarkable transition of curious medical students into confident physician-scientists, Dr. Zeine has found the ability to provide her classrooms and mentorships with her personal experiences, knowledge, skills and wisdom to be extremely fulfilling and rewarding.
Additionally, Dr. Zeine remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of interest, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the International Society of Neuropathologists, the Academy of Management, the Society of Human Resources Management and the Baha'i Faith Community. She had previously maintained her involvement with the Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Society as a fundraiser through their golf outings with the Friends of Michael Williams. Receiving grants from the likes of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke through the National Institutes of Health and the Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Society between 2000 and 2008, she was celebrated with a National English Composition Award from the Michael Shiha Literary Society in 1980, a Scholarship Bourse de Doctorat en Sciences Fondamentales from Quebec, Canada, from 1989 to 1990, Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada on multiple occasions between 1991 and 1998, and both a Poster Presentation Award and a Travel Award from the Canadian Society for Immunology in 1989 and 1991, respectively. Dr. Zeine was additionally spotlighted on the Dean's Honor List at the American University of Beirut from 1980 to 1987.
The recipient of the Best Speaker Award from McGill University in 1991 and the Best Written Abstract Award from the University of Ottawa in 1996, Dr. Zeine's exemplary efforts were also commended with Physician's Recognition Awards from the American Medical Association from 2005 to 2007, a Best Abstract Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2007, and a Young Investigator Award from the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group in 2008. She was further recognized by the Saint James School of Medicine with Teacher Appreciation in 2015 and with American Medical Student Association Advisor Appreciation in 2016. In recent years, Dr. Zeine was presented with a Certificate of Participation in the Emerald/HETL Education Outstanding Doctoral Research Award Program at Saint James School of Medicine in 2018, an Outstanding Reviewer Award at the Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence from Emerald Publishing in 2019 and a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Accomplishments from the Saint James School of Medicine in 2019, which she accepted at a notable farewell party at which she was heralded as the soul of the school.
