He created the organization to honor the life of his beloved wife Gloria, who was killed in a car accident caused by a speeding driver. Nick and Gloria were married for 32 years and although they had no children due to miscarriages, they had a deep love for children and served as Godparents to 14. He built a network of committed volunteers (Ambassadors), established a 24/7 multilingual helpline for those in need, created ongoing education, awareness and Fundraising campaigns. The organization does not charge for any of their services.
Turning a tragedy into saving lives, Nick honors his family, is a faithful adherent of his Christian faith, and truly is making a difference in the world. To date, A Safe Haven for Newborns has saved more than 300 newborns from the dangers of abandonment. They all now have a future, lots of love with their forever families. Moreover, over 5,000 pregnant women have been aided by the organization in their time of crisis. Nick says "What is more important than saving a life, we speak up for the voiceless". Believing that he has made an impact in saving the life of even just one child, Mr. Silverio fondly recalls a fire chief citing his efforts as "great work that will impact eternity."
Previously, Mr. Silverio worked as an entrepreneur, having founded Nick E. Silverio and Associates, Inc., a successful information technology company that operated as a valued business partner of IBM for a number of years. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued a formal education and completed several college courses. Mr. Silverio remains affiliated with various civic and faith based organizations including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Knights of Columbus, Knights of Malta and Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Silverio has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was notably inducted to the Archbishop Curley High School Hall of Fame.
