Morgan McDonald hopes to inspire future generations to aspire to consciously choose to be positive role models and to work to benefit others.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, November 01, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mr. McDonald has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Growing up in a low-income community, Mr. McDonald was exposed to distressing issues such as his mother's struggles with substance abuse. He narrowly escaped a stay in the foster care system by a compassionate sister, and frequently steered clear of the temptation to perpetuate his situation. As he explains, "I'm just a kid from inner city Chicago that made a conscious decision to not be a product of my environment." Not only has he experienced his own success, but Mr. McDonald has made it his goal in life to aid as many children as possible in their pursuit of personal achievements.
In 2008, Mr. McDonald graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, with a Bachelor of Science focusing on education and human resources. He also earned his certification as a coach with USA Boxing. In 2013, he applied his talents in education and sports to his role as the head basketball coach for Lucy Craft Laney at Cleveland Park Community School in Minneapolis, MN. In this position, he recognized children to whom he could relate due to their upbringing and background. As his first role model was his own basketball coach, he then vowed to become a positive example to the children he encountered in the program.
Since 2013, Mr. McDonald has held many posts within the Lucy Laney Community School, serving as the athletic director from 2013 to 2016 and as an assistant in special education resource intervention. He has since been named as a student support specialist at Lucy Laney Elementary School. Mr. McDonald has also piloted an innovative program for helping students channel anger, frustration, and tension with a school-wide boxing program.
As the chief executive office of the Lucy Laney Boxing Academy, Mr. McDonald helps children guide their frustrations away from conflict and destructive tendencies, allowing them to roister within the regulations of the boxing ring. He teaches children to seek a creative outlet for their emotions, rather than engaging in fisticuffs with each other. As a father of four children himself, Mr. McDonald hopes to inspire future generations to aspire to consciously choose to be positive role models and to work to benefit others.
