Inspired by her mother to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Martin initially flourished as a nurse, beginning in the early 1980s. As an experienced nurse, she also discovered that the industry needed more educators and accepted the posts of a professor of nursing and the ADN program director for the College of Southern Nevada in 2009 and 2016, respectively. For many years, she worked with patients in cancer research, recruiting patients for trials and educating them about the field. Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Martin earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Michigan in 1981. Subsequently, she continued her studies at Eastern Michigan University, obtaining a Master of Science in adult health nursing in 1999. Dr. Martin concluded her academic efforts with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in nursing education at Touro University Nevada in 2015.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Martin is affiliated with Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Kappa Phi, the National League of Nurses, the Nevada Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. During her spare time, she contributes to those in need through the Health Ministry Team at Mountain View Presbyterian Church. With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, she provided her expertise to the scholarly project "Journaling Best Practices to Reduce Nursing Student Stress & Anxiety." In the coming years, Dr. Martin intends to continue in the field of nursing education while she looks forward to retirement, stating "I would like to encourage the next generation of nurses to be educators in the field."
