Ronald Linn Black continues to follow his passion for music as a longtime drummer and lead vocalist with various local bands
JOHNSTOWN, PA, November 12, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Ronald Linn Black with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Black celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Black is renowned as a retired music educator and director who celebrates 35 wonderful years at the Portage Area School District in Cambria County, PA, between 1971 and 2006. In 1975, he created the Portage Area High School Stage Band, as well as the distinctive musical and theatrical experience of the stage band concerts, which included elaborate themes, light displays and special effects. These unique musical performances astounded audiences, distinguishing the Portage Area School District from other local and regional district music programs. His philosophy has always been to "treat your students with the respect that they deserve, they will do the same in return."
Born in Johnstown, Mr. Black developed a love of music at an early age. Inspired by his parents, his father, who was a physician, was also a very talented vocalist. Meanwhile, Mr. Black's mother was a skilled piano player.
Mr. Black began taking drum and piano lessons in the fourth grade and showed a great deal of promise with his musical abilities over the years. He initially pursued a music degree at Maryville College in Tennessee as the very first percussion major on campus. Receiving a bachelor's degree in 1970, Mr. Black concluded his studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he obtained a Master of Arts in music education in 1976.
Although he is no longer involved in education, Mr. Black continues to follow his passion for music as a longtime drummer and lead vocalist with various local bands since 1964. He received the Lauretta Woodson Recognition Award from the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees to honor one educator from the County for doing an outstanding job within a school district. He remains affiliated with the National Education Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Mr. Black's wife has been a rock. She worked in a daycare, and later on had a kidney transplant and was no longer able to be around children, so she went to work as an elderly caretaker. On December 28, 2018, Mr. and Mrs. Black celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. Black is most proud of his daughter for getting her PhD. Lynanne got her master's degree and PhD while working as a school psychologist in Delaware. She is currently Dean's Associate for Academic Affairs in the College of Education and Communication at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has received numerous honors and awards.
