Ms. Witzel is an emergency nurse and paramedic educator with more than 45 years of distinction in her field. Since childhood, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in nursing, and she received her diploma in nursing from Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1968. She continued her studies at Creighton University before earning a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Excelsior College in New York in 2003. Ms. Witzel completed her education with a Master of Arts in bioethics from Midwestern University in Phoenix in 2008.
From 1968 to 1969, Ms. Witzel was a staff float nurse at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following this appointment, from 1974 to 1975, she was a charge nurse in the emergency department at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she discovered a passion for trauma nursing. Furthermore, Ms. Witzel was an emergency charge nurse at Creighton University Medical Center-Saint Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, from 1975 to 1976, before becoming an instructor and clinical coordinator for Creighton University's paramedic training program from 1976 to 1980.
Ms. Witzel began her career with Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, now the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, in Phoenix in 1982 as an emergency department staff nurse, rising to south central area coordinator in 1987 and disaster chair in 1992. She would hold both roles until 2014. From 1985 to 1990, Ms. Witzel was also a staff nurse at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. She has taught numerous CPR and emergency medical technician skills classes to civilian responders, as well as to certified EMTs, and holds multiple teaching certifications including as a paramedic instructor, BLS instructor and BLS instructor trainer, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support provider. Ms. Witzel has been affiliate faculty for American Safety and Health since 1995.
