Much sought for her scholarly opinion, Dr. Dr. Delores Patricia Aldridge is the author of more than 100 publications on race, gender, families and intergroup relations.

Dr. Aldridge is a sociologist, educational administrator, and African-American studies scholar with more than 45 years of excellence in her discipline. She is a licensed clinical social worker, and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Clark College and a Master of Social Work from Atlanta University. Dr. Aldridge completed a postgraduate certificate in child psychology at the University of Ireland Dublin in 1967, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Purdue University in 1971.
From 1963 until 1964, Dr. Aldridge garnered a laudable reputation as a social worker for the Florida Department of Public Welfare, associate director of the Tampa Urban league, and a psychiatric social worker for St. John of God Brothers Child Guidance Clinic in Dublin Ireland, from 1966 to 1967. She became the acting chief of social services for the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center of Winter Haven, Florida, in 1967, and the executive director of Lafayette Community Centers between 1969 and 1971. Dr. Aldridge entered a position with Emory University as its first African American female faculty member. She was charged with developing the South's first African-American studies program, serving as its administrative head from 1971 to 1990. Since 1990, Dr. Aldridge flourished as the Grace Towns Hamilton distinguished professor of sociology and African American Studies at Emory University, the first named chair in America honoring an African American female.

One of her first and seminal works is Black Women in the Economic Marketplace published in 1974. Subsequently, she published "Black Male-Female Relations: A Sourcebook," in 1989, followed by "Focusing: Black Male-Female Relations," in 1991. Among other books are several in Africana Studies. In 2010, she published "Imagine a World: Pioneering Black Women Sociologists." She is recipient of more than 100 awards for her professional and community contributions with several awards named in her honor. A 1989 Presidential Award was received from the National Council for Black Studies and a 1986 W.E.B. DuBois Award for distinguished scholarship. Emory bestowed one of its Great Teachers of the Century Awards in 1992 and its highest award for service emphasizing unparalleled leadership with Russia's Premier Mikhail Gorborchev assisting in the' presentation. Among her many awards are lifetime achievement awards from both the Southern Sociological Society and the American Sociological Association. She is a lifetime member and former president of the National Council for Black Studies and the Association of Social and Behavioral Scientists, and currently serves as president and co-founder of the KESS NSONA Health and Education Foundation.
